Description
Summary:The purpose of this study is to find out the perceptions of the teacher trainees towards the teaching and learning of Mathematics in English in schools. The perceptions are varied with regard to the semester of study and the gender of the teacher trainees, and to see the relation between their perceptions and their choice of medium of instruction. A set of questionnaire comprising 25 items using the Likert scale is used to find out the teacher trainee's perceptions. The respondents consist of 66 students in Malay Language Institute of Malaysia who are majoring in Mathematics, in which 33 of them are in Semester 2 and another 33 are in Semester 4. The results show that majority of the teacher trainees have positive perceptions towards the teaching and learning of Mathematics in English. In terms of levels of perceptions, samples of the t-test results show no significant differences among the teacher trainees in terms of gender and semester of study. In terms of correlation, the findings also show no significant correlation between the level of the teacher trainees' perceptions and the medium of instruction preferred by the teacher trainees.
