The effect of contributory factors on young road users’ behaviour in Malaysia

Road accidents are one of the most serious risks to public safety worldwide, which includes Malaysia. 1.17 million death worldwide occur each year due to road accidents, 70% of which occur in developing countries in the world. Much research has been conducted in the past to try to figure out what factors contribute to the high incidence of road accidents among these high-risk drivers. However, this study is mostly focused on "irresponsible drivers who use cell phones while driving, drink and drive, break the traffic rules, and have vehicles in poor brake and tire conditions. Other than the environment—the rainy season, the dark environment that leads to road accidents. All these factors contribute to the high rate of road accidents in Malaysia. The purpose of this study was to examine the factors that influence road accidents among Malaysia's young drivers. An online survey form was used to collect the data from the respondents. It is mainly focused on three main factors: the human factor, the environment factor, and the vehicle factor. The study was based on a self-administered questionnaire survey of young Malaysian drivers. Results show that respondents aged 18 to 24 years old made up the largest age group (56.6%). The youngest age group had 32 respondents, or 10.4% of the sample, between the ages of 32 and 38. The frequency result then displays the gender of Malaysia's young drivers. The survey's results show that 205 respondents (66.8%) were female and 72 respondents (23.5%) were male. This study was mainly focused on young Malaysian drivers, between the ages of 18 to 38 years old.
