description This study presents a macro-unified examination of the artistic narrative in Chinese pottery decorative design, spanning from the pre-Qin period to the Qing dynasty. It reveals the evolution of craftsmanship and the distinct characteristics of pottery decoration across different historical eras, including the Xia, Shang, Zhou, Qin, Han, Wei, Jin, North and South dynasties, Sui, Tang, Five dynasties, and Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing periods. Through a systematic analysis of materials, craftsmanship, modeling, ornamentation, aesthetics, and connotations of ceramics in each historical period, this thesis explores the development of the artistic narrative in Chinese ceramics. It delves into the cultural significance behind the decorative narratives using iconography, semiotics, narratology, and comparative studies. The thesis discusses the narrative modes in different historical periods by examining the narrative development of ceramic decoration, the narrative subjects, and the techniques and color narratives. It further explores the cultural significance and connotations behind the ceramic decoration. Finally, the study addresses how ceramic decoration can be modernized to align with contemporary aesthetic narrative modes and creative products, considering modern aesthetics. The research aims to summarize the origins and appearance of ancient Chinese ceramic decorative narratives and explore the developmental laws and cultural values of these narratives. This will facilitate the contemporary transformation of ancient ceramic decorations to better align with social aesthetic trends
