Description
Summary:This paper describes an evaluation for the layout design assessment in Newborn Hearing Screening Program (NHS) from the viewpoint of operation management. NHS is one of the most important programs in order to detect the hearing problem among babies. NHS is a new implementation program in Malaysia. This study objectively was to assess and measure on the layout design in NHS program. The layout design of these two centers; HUSM and HSB were measured qualitatively through an observation, experience within the system and interview with the program supervisor. Results showed both layout designs have strengths and weaknesses. However, the efficiency of the current layout was high; 66.7% at HUSM and 87.5% HSB. Study suggested a few modifications in work process, human resource management, training and others technical issues will improve the current system. Study also believed that this program can be implemented successfully in Malaysia with all issues need to be considered.
