Résumé:The depletion of fossil fuels and increasing demand of conventional energy globally had been the main concern of the humankind nowadays. A continuous supply of energy is vital to support the human civilization. Biodiesel was one of the promising alternative of conventional fuel which is renewable, environmental friendly and sustainable. Castor oil was seen to be a suitable feedstock for sustainable production of biodiesel as it is non- edible and had no competition with food industry. The use of heterogeneous catalyst for biodiesel production posses many advantages compared to homogeneous catalyst. Calcium oxide derived from mud clam shell had been determined to be an economical yet environmental friendly heterogeneous catalyst for sustainable biodiesel production. This study focuses on the heterogeneous catalyst for biodiesel production. It covers the characterization of the heterogeeous catalyst and the transesterification study of the heterogeneous catalyst by using castor oil as a feedstock.
