Description
Summary:Museums are crucial custodians of cultural, historical, and artistic heritage, granting access to insights from bygone eras. While many Malaysian museums aim to leverage digital technologies for relevance and visitor satisfaction, empirical evidence reveals challenges hindering effective adoption, impacting museum growth and tourism. Museums are struggling to kick-start their digital transformation journey, unsure of where to begin in the face of various challenges and complexities. Therefore, the absence of a structured framework poses a critical challenge for Malaysian museums seeking to embark on digital transformation, lacking a systematic approach to assess their current digital transformation state and identify pivotal components or sectors for targeted change. This study adapted the Digital Readiness Questionnaire (DRQ) using content validation, then systematically evaluated and computed the Digital Readiness Index (DRI) for museums in Malaysia, functioning as a tool for assessing the digital transformation status and directions on how to embark on the digital transformation within the museum sector. The findings offer significant insights for researchers and museum management, providing a nuanced understanding of key aspects of digital transformation requiring heightened attention and collaboration.
