Pedestrian’s movement is not restricted to a specific route because they frequently change their direction due to their own destination. However, their trip had been restricted formed by the physical boundaries which lie surround their walking environment and indirectly had formed a pedestrian path. Among the most important element in the physical boundaries context is the buffer area. Physical boundaries are an important factor in walkway system as it will protect and separate pedestrians from the motor vehicles. Therefore it is important in any pedestrian planning to give priority for the provision of physical boundaries so that the pedestrian’s safety and comfort will always at the highest level. However in the process of preparing safe and comfortable walkways, a research about pedestrian level of service is important to be conducted. It should be noted that each path has their own physical and non physical characteristics and those characteristics and have their own role as a key factor of walkways safety and comfort level. There is a need to carry out a pedestrian level of service study to ensure that the proposed pedestrian improvement will meet the walkways requirement.
