Rashid, supervisor Civil engineering Also available in printed version Carbon footprint has become a widely used term and concept in the public debate on responsibility and abatement action against the threat of global warming and global climate change. The term of “carbon footprint” also has grown in popularity over the past ten years in response to the increasing public awareness of environmental issues and climate change. Regarding that, students at many of the institutions have promoted and participated in efforts to reduce their campus carbon and overall ecological footprint, this is because the universities are the center of activity for innovation and ideas, the perfect place for instilling the idea of sustainability in young minds and at the same time, creating societal awareness on how sustainability can be integrated in day-to-day life. So the objective of this research are to identify the students awareness regarding carbon footprint and the factors that can contribute to students awareness in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. To analyze the level of awareness, the frequency method was used for the selection of a number of frequency responses. Besides, the cross-tab method to see the relationship between the gender, nationality and the level of education with the students awareness. There are six major factors that can contribute to students awareness. The result shows that the percentage of students that did not aware about carbon footprint is high and there are 3 sub-factors that have high percentage of disagree which are carbon footprint calculation every year, establish a general first year course on carbon footprint issues and student's contributions to carbon footprint as a criterion to increase the pointer in education fahmimoksen UTM 111 p.
