This is due to the biomass are widely used in the field of food additives, pharmaceuticals, animal feed, supplements, cosmetics, and polymer materials. Hence, the demand of biomass is in huge amount. Therefore, there had a lot of new researches for produce the biomass in the huge amount for sufficient used. In this research, only focus on the ethanol production in Escherichia coli. Naturally, the ethanol produced in Escherichia coli was under anaerobic condition which means the condition without oxygen. Besides that, there had a lot of metabolic engineering techniques to produce the ethanol in Escherichia coli such as gene knockout strategy. The gene knockout strategy applied for ethanol production in Escherichia coli can be aerobic or anaerobic condition. The technique that proposed in this research was a hybrid algorithm of Particle Swarm Optimization with Flux Balance Analysis (PSOFBA). Particle Swarm Optimization as an optimization algorithm based on the movement for birds flocking or fish school around their food sources. For the evaluation fitness part, the method that used is Flux Balance Analysis which is to calculate the fitness such as growth rate of an organism and production rate of a biomass atiff UTM 104 p.
