Curriculum orientation guides a lecturer in determining the curriculum implementation and influences the teaching style shown by a lecturer. This study aims to determine the teaching style profile based on the curriculum orientation of lecturers at Teacher Education Institute (IPG). Curriculum orientation consists of academic orientation, cognitive, social, humanistic and technology while teaching style consists of expert, formal authority, personal model, facilitator and delegator styles. This study involves mixed methods approach using qualitative method to further explain the findings from the quantitative method. The questionnaire consists of three parts; the respondents' background, curriculum orientation inventory and teaching style inventory. The quantitative data were collected from 472 respondents who were selected through cluster sampling. Qualitative data were collected through interviews from 8 lecturers who were chosen through purposive sampling to confirm the findings from quantitative study. Descriptive statistic used were mean and percentage, and inference involving ANOVA test repeated measures, Pearson correlation, one way MANOVA test, cluster analysis and logistic regression. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically. Findings of this study showed that IPG lecturers appreciate all the curriculum orientation, achieved the highest level in technology orientation but obtained the lowest in cognitive orientation. There are significant differences in curriculum orientation based on teaching experiences and specialization in IPG. Lecturers of IPG appreciate all the teaching styles, the highest being facilitator style and the lowest, delegator style. There are significant differences in teaching styles based on their specialization and gender. Qualitative data further confirm the findings of the dominant curriculum orientation and teaching styles. Cluster analysis followed by logistic regression analysis showed the probability of a relationship between the teaching style with the background and curriculum orientation factors. The findings show that the curriculum orientation and teaching styles of IPG lecturers are not in line with the goal of educational transformation in IPG towards student centered university. Thus cognitive orientation should be inculcated among the lecturers so that they can improve their delegator and facilitator teaching styles which are needed more in the 21st century teaching zulaihi UTM 269 p.
