Previously, agriculture started from the subsistence activities or traditional way. Then it develops to become a very crucial industry in the world. Agriculture activities is seen to be a method that could eradicate poverty as well as the separation of socio-economic sectors among ethnics can be reduced. However, many of agriculture land have been used and replaced with industrial zones and residential area. The importance of agriculture has been neglected as the world tends to develop industrial products. As the result, the suitable agriculture areas have been destroy to build industrial and residential buildings. This problem need to be taken seriously to preserve the agriculture land from being destroy and replaced. The aim of the study is to make comparative analysis between Majlis Pembandaran Alor Gajah (MPAG), Melaka agriculture zone with agriculture area generated based on selected criterias. Geographic Information System (GIS) has been identified as the most powerful tool to be adapted in this study. This study focused on determining the best location for agriculture activities by concerning four main criterias. Database has been designed and developed using ArcGIS 10 to be used for making analysis to find the suitable area for agriculture for MPAG based on local plan. The results of analysis are then compared with the agriculture zone in local plan of MPAG. The finding of this study could assist related organizations in finding the best location for future agriculture development. This study also could contribute the awareness of preserving the agriculture areas by determining the suitable agriculture areas for development of this sector atiff UTM 68 p.
