The oceanographic data cover up about environmental parameters such as, wind and ocean current. There are many sources to get this data and for Malaysian seas data is basically coming from Malaysian Metrological Services (MMS). The MMS wave data are based on visual observation from ships and limited wave buoy. However, the accuracy, reliability and comprehensiveness especially data from visual observation are often questioned. This project is done to develop a more reliable and accurate wave database for Malaysian seas using satellite altimeter. The wave data from satellite are obtain from Physical Oceanography Information System (POIS) for two selected areas with grid 2°x 2° of Malaysian sea. Results from analyses are presented in the form of probability distribution functions and compared the results with MMS data. The comparison is required in order to assess the accuracy and reliability of the data. Wave data from satellite also can be used to derive wave periods using Hwang method. The probability of wave height and wave period from satellite is then presented in the scatter diagram, a joint probability diagram snhas UTM 76 p.
