Sam, supervisor Polymers Also available in printed version : TA455.P58 A72 2004 raf The use of Fiber Reinced Polymers (FRP)for in the construction industry in Malaysia is still in its infancy stage and dependent on the type of structure to be used. The research studies carried out are to achieve the objectives and determine the use of FRP in the construction industry, to determine the effectiveness of the use of FRP as an alternative to materials currently used and to determine the advantages and disadvantages of its use as a structural material in construction industry. The research was carried out by way of interviews with particular individuals as well as institutions that are involved in the construction industry. From the research that we have carried out, we were able to determine that the use of the material was concentrated on certain structural elements such as water and chemical storage tanks, gratings, platforms, sign boards as well as used in the rehabilitation of structures. Due to the high cost involved as compared to conventional material as well as the lack of exposure on its usage has resulted in the unpopularity of the use of the material. We have made certain proposals outlining the effectiveness of the material in view of creating an awareness on the use of the material for generations to come snhas UTM 102 p.
