There are two inherent problems with this source, the price tends to fluctuate unpredictably and it causes pollution. Incorporating wind-assisted technology in ships is a viable option to reduce our dependence on fossil fuel and is worthy of further study. This thesis presents a study on the usage of wind-assisted device, particularly kite sail in a 36m landing craft that plies between Miri port and Kota Kinabalu port. The kite sail was designed and the thrust it can produce was calculated. Reduction in power requirement from engine was converted into amount in fuel saving which in turn was converted into monetary terms. Finally, economic assessment was carried out to find out how long does it take for the investment to pay off financially. snhas UTM 92 p.
