It is available in large quantities in the tropical regions and can be used as a replacement of aggregate in concrete. PKS is naturally light in weight, thus the density of concrete will decrease when PKS is replacing as aggregate. The main advantage of PKS aggregate concrete is reducing the overall dead load of structure. This paper illustrates the result of study on the effect of different composition of PKS replacement on physical and mechanical properties of normal weight concrete. A set of experimental test including slump, density, compressive strength, split tension strength and flexural strength test was conducted. These properties were compared with control concrete made with normal weight aggregate. The control concrete was replaced by 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% percentage of PKS with by volume method. The composition of others material such as cement, fine aggregate and water will remain the same. The comparison of properties between PKS replacement concrete and control concrete were made. PKS replacement of 25% were carried out by two method: by volume and by weight. The replacement of PKS as coarse aggregate in normal weight concrete contributed drops in compressive strength, split tension strength and flexural strength. The density of concrete also decreased when higher percentage of PKS was replacing as coarse aggregate. The density of 100% PKS replacement concrete was less than 1800kg/m3which within the density of structure used lightweight concrete. The PKS concrete by using by volume replacement method had better mechanical properties compared with by weight replacement method. practical01 UTM 103 p.
