The strength of concrete is greatly influenced by the porous materials, where its strength will be reduced when the pores in concrete is increased. This study investigates the relationship between the porosity and the mechanical properties of OPS concrete. The samples were casted by using different water/cement ratio (0.35, 0.45, 0.54 and 0.65) and composition of OPS aggregates of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. The results show compressive strength reduced as the increase in percentage of porosity in OPS concrete. The water and cement contents had brought a great effect to the OPS concrete strength. The excessive water content in OPS concrete reduces the cohesive properties of cement paste and tends to segregate and bleeding. The increase in the amount of composition OPS in concrete will cause the dry density decreases and the percentage of porosity increases. practical01 UTM 94 p.
