In the distant years, a number of ground effect machine test models were built based on the idea of using air between the hull of a boat and the water to reduce drag of chin but still no practical application. Over the years, various other people had tried various methods of using air to reduce the drag on ships. Nowadays, robots technologies have been developed rapidly in most countries where it been used to replace humans in doing tasks or work especially in hostile environment. Robotics are commonly related to automation which defined as the process of following a predetermined sequence of operations with minimum or non human intervention using specialized equipment and devices that control and perform the particular tasks. The progress on robotics, computer technology, sensors and perception systems has produced great advances in the field of Hovercraft. This project was implemented the amphibian robot concept to the Hovercraft, is mainly about designing and fabricating a mobile Hovercraft model which is operated by dual mode (remote controlled or autonomously). The lift and propulsion of the model Hovercraft will be provided by miniature electric-powered motors. The lift propeller will direct air downward onto the ground generating an air cushion beneath the craft while the thrust propellers will enable the craft to move forward. This Hovercraft can go forward and turning to right and left depend on the determined signal from RF module or detection of Infra-Red (IR) sensors and give the input signal to the PIC18F452 which is act as a brain for this Hovercraft to produce the output signal to control the movement of Hovercraft. The objectives of this project are to design the Hovercraft which includes a design of the physical structure, electronic circuit, operating and control system of the Hovercraft. atiff UTM 137 p.
