This project is focusing on the development a version of EPC to support the available facilities at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). There were considerably several developments and effort set to produce an acceptable version of the chest and process data. The first few was concentrating in developing the combine model for the process then separating them into two parts, i.e, steam generator and chest. The main issue to target is the chest itself. The problem like joint line leaking and insufficient supply of steam hinders the progress. By reviewing of previous chest design and adapting Ishikawa approach to evaluate the weak aspects and benefits the current work especially in designing a new version of facility. Application of design selection approach is important to develop new version of apparatus. The matrix evaluation method is used to justify and select the most appropriate design concept. Then, analysis of materials strength, steam flow, heat transfer and welding are required to make sure the facility able to operate in safe and well functioning. Preparations of engineering drawings are needed before continue fabrication process. All fabrication process was done in hand-on condition by using tools and related equipment. Facility testing is needed to ensure the facility can function well without leaking. Repairing is carried out due to leaking, and clamping failure. Experiment was done with the use of boiler in thermo laboratory. The experiment design was using different pressure, heating time and curing time in order to obtain the optimum result. The experiment results establish the conventional relation between steam pressure, holding time for curing and polystyrene volume. The current design with 9000cm3 of envelope size shows the tolerable pattern result at 30 seconds of heating time and 1.5 bar steam pressure. snhas UTM 124 p.
