They provide meansof transportation as well as communications. Therefore, road pavement needs to bemaintained from time to time to achieve its purpose and contribute comfort to theusers. There are several types of pavement distressed such as cracks, patching,potholes and rutting which are caused by weather changes, high traffic and alsonatural disaster such as earthquake. Hence, a very systematic road maintenance isneeded to sustain the good quality of the road surface. These are carried out by thegovernment’s agency, Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) who uses conventional methodssuch as visual inspection to measure the condition of the road surface. This methodcan be seen as very slow and inaccurate. Thus, this study proposes the use of closerange photogrammetry as an alternative to the conventional method. One of theadvantages of this method is that it is able to handle a large amount of data which canbe processed quickly with minimum of human’s touch. Results have shown thedifferences between photogrammetry and conventional methods are less than 10%.Despite that the initial cost is high; the close range photogrammetry is still economicfor long term usage because it will produce more reliable and efficient results thanconventional method. idham UTM 83 p.
