When this social interaction is missing in a public space, the public space is lost. The meaning of lost space between residents and passersby is different because the perceptions of the environment due to differences in humans and their way of life are not the same. The variables of space, which associate the meaning of lost space for people, were not identified, so there is a big gap in designing lost spaces to bringing back to the people and life cycle. Lost space is a production of urban space left by people. If it continues, we will lose the place. In the lost space we just have an unusable land in the urban environment whereas, when we lost a place not only people’s memories and imagined being forgotten from a space but also the identity to be lost and the characteristic of the city and citizenship will decline sharply. Therefore this study has concentrated on the lost space to identify the variables of lost space which convey the meaning of lost space to people, in addition to comparing the results of people’s perception with the theory of finding lost space about urban space and, comparing the perception of residents and passerby about an urban space as a lost space. The Kampung Jawa was chosen as a study area based on theory of lost space and with the aim of finding the effective visual and perceptual variables of lost space, the observation and questionnaire survey were used. The result showed the perceptual remarkable differences between residents and passersby which are under influence of their familiarity of the site and connotation of factors in the vision of residents and passersby. It determined and categorized the perceptual variables of Kampung Jawa lost space in three categories, 1- both groups denoted the negation of variables, 2- the negative vision of passersby and positive vision of residents, but this positive opinion is not strong, 3- the opinion of two groups is exactly opposite.
