Zamri Mohd Yusop, supervisor Mechanical engineering Not available In this current era, the demand for energy is at an all-time high. Thus, a new renewable source of energy should be proposed to replace the current non-renewable source of energy. This can be in terms of biomass energy where in current situation, the waste product of agricultural crops is in abundance. This agricultural crop residue is often not being remove in an efficient way where it is usually burnt which could add to environment pollution. With the introduction of this biomass pyrolysis reactor, this could be used to incinerate this biomass and generate electrical energy and reduce its pollution effect to the environment. The objectives for this study are (1) to determine the elemental properties of the biomass precursors involved which are rice husk, coconut shell, empty fruit bunch (EFB), and bamboo chips as raw material in the biomass pyrolysis reactor, (2) to determine the efficiency of the biomass precursor undergo the pyrolysis process in terms of its cost, volume, and energy generation based on the simulation study. In this simulation study, the software Aspen Plus V11 is used to design the biomass pyrolysis reactor design flowsheet. In terms of input value to be included in the simulation study, is the proximate & ultimate analysis value of the biomass precursors. This value is crucial as it determines the output electrical generation of the pyrolysis simulation. From this input values, the electrical generation output for each biomass precursors can be simulated and analysed to determine the highest electrical generation output of each biomass. Each biomass is heated at varying temperature of between 500 - 1000°C to determine the best temperature to generate electrical energy. It can be expected that the best biomass precursors are the EFB with at 1000 °C generate about 39.1 kW of energy. This could be added by the fact due to its low-price value of RM0.30/kg making it the best biomass precursors for the study. shafika UTM 67 p.
