In third generation methods of increasing recovery, mobility ratio and capillary number is improved to have better oil production. These methods are known as EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery) methods. EOR methods have many branches; one of them is chemical enhanced oil recovery method. Surfactant flooding is one of chemical methods that use surfactant to increase oil recovery. Surfactant solutions can be used after water flooding to recover residual oil droplets from the reservoir pore spaces. One of the major problems in surfactant flooding is surfactant retention. And adsorption of surfactant on the rock surface is the important factor in surfactant retention. This study intended to determine surfactant adsorption in different situations and find out the effects of reservoir water salinity, surfactant concentration, type of surfactant and type of rock on the adsorption of surfactant. Polyoxyethylene (12) Nonylphenyl Ether (PNE) was used as a non-ionic and anionic surfactant in this study was Sodium Dodecyl Benzene Sulfonate (SDBS). Limestone and sandstone were used in the project as two major types of rock which we deal with them in reservoirs. To analyze surfactant adsorption with various salinity concentrations, this study worked with Sodium Chloride (NACL). To determine amount of adsorption, UV/VIS spectrophotometer apparatus was used. The results showed the adsorption of anionic surfactant on limestone is the highest value among whole conditions (more than 0.7 mg/g). Salinity has less (negligible) influence on nonionic surfactant. However, it is recommended to use anionic surfactant on sandstone. zulraizam UTM 86 p.
