Five class in third floor of schools have been targeted, which are located in Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampong Pasir Johor Bahru. Noise level annoyance in front of the school, in the schoolyard and in the classrooms were assessed. The results indicated that noise pollution was quite serious in these roadside schools, and the school noise levels were significantly correlated with road traffic noise. The sound level metre had been used to measure the noise level. The highest calculated equivalent sound level in class was reached an average of 71 dB(A). Before treatment of class the reading of noise level data was higher than the World Health Organization's recommended external threshold value (55.0 dB(A)). The on-site questionnaires revealed that all the students felt disturbed by the noise of road traffic and the degree of disturbance with the traffic were increased. The students were agree the traffic noise affects the level of annoyance and sensitivity. In order to reduce the traffic noise, it was proposed to renovate the class by installing acoustic curtain, acoustic ceiling panel and window glazing. Other noises were found acceptable (e.g. those from adjacent classrooms and those produced through student activities). Further analysis showed the relationship showed between road noise levels and highly disturbed students. And finally, road noise level is a key factor affecting roadside schools' acoustic comfort. zulraizam UTM 115 p.
