In any cases, the land acquisition must go through the legal process and comply with the Land Acquisition Act (LAA) 1960. The government agency involves in the land acquisition process are MOT, JKPTG, PTG, SUK, JPPH dan PTD. If the project affected with the private land or alienated land, it must go through the land acquisition process. The land to be acquired shall be gazetted under Section 8 of LAA 1960 until issuance of Form K (Formal Possession). The aim of the research is to give clearly on land acquisition process in railway project so as it can be minimised the land issues, reducing the land cost and to enhance efficiency in designing the project alignment. This research will focus on land acquisition process for railway project where the case study is the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project for the Kelantan stretch. The result from the research is expected that the engineers could understand the land acquisition process in designing the project alignment. The objectives from this research is to identify the land acquisition process in railway project, to clarify the of land acquisition issues in railway project and to develop the land acquisition guideline/flowchart for engineers use. This research has involved several processes which started by determining of problem statement, aim, objectives and literature reviews. As such, an interview session with the persons who are involves in the project was conducted through face to face session. A set of questions were provided where the question and answer revolved around the scope of research. The outcome the research have been analysed and hopefully it can be used for engineers as the guidelines in designing the project alignment at the minimum impacts of land issues such as to preserved the forest reserve, reducing the residential areas and also the sensitive places like cemetery, school, clinic, mosque and others government building.
