Warid Hussin, supervisor Civil engineering Also available in printed version Nowadays issue on environment preservation and the sustainability of the development is very crucial. This is because the effect of global warming and also the amount of the non renewable sources is extremely diminished. Therefore a research work has been carried out at Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in order to contribute to the sustainability of the development. The research that has been conducted is regarded to the by product of the coal fired power station. Coal fired power station are producing huge amount of by product which is fly ash and bottom ash. This by product is bases of geopolymer material that can be used in the construction industry in order recycle the usage of the waste. Geopolymer mortar bricks is been made in this research. Bottom ash has been used as sand replacement while fly as was used as a cement replacement. The ratio of the binder to sand is 1: 3 with the proportion of the bottom ash was varies by using 50% and also 40% replacement. The alkaline to fly ash ratio being used is varies with 0.25:1 and 0.30:1. Three kind of test was conducted so that the engineering properties of the geopolymer mortar bricks are known. The tests are compressive strength test, water absorption test and also the dimensional test. Based on the result of this research, the minimum strength of geopolymer mortar bricks is 5.6 MPa at seven days of air curing with the increasing in strength as the period of curing is going on. The strength is enough to production of the bricks in the market fahmimoksen UTM 82 p.
