Efforts to stabilize slopes include supporting the base of the slope with retaining walls. This project is aimed at identifying the effect of change of geometry and remedial work i.e. the construction of gabion wall on slope stability. In addition to gabion wall the slope face is covered by concrete guniting to avoid rainfall infiltration into slope. Slope stability analysis was carried out using Slope/W program. Morgenstern-Price method is used in software analysis because it allows user-specified slip plane and inter-slice force functions. The research focused on a case study whereby geometry of a natural slope has to be changed due to excavation work required for construction of factories. Three cases namely the original slope with back analysis, cut slope for development and application of gabion retaining structure were studied in this project. This analysis showed that changing slope angle from 43o to 55o and 70o decreases the factor of safety from 2.0 to 1.5 and less than 1.3 respectively. Furthermore, application rectification work in the form of gabion retaining wall structure on slope is effective increase the safety factor to above 2.0. The placement of retaining wall at the toe strengthen the slope by changing the length of failure plane zulaihi UTM 77 p.
