Fadhil Md. Din, supervisor Civil engineering Also available in printed version Palm oil industry is among the largest/major production industries in Malaysia and this country ranks one of the largest productions in the world. Production of such a large amount of crude palm oil results in larger amount of palm oil mill effluent (POME). Palm oil mill effluent can be used as one of biofuel resource by manipulating microalgae biomass in producing lipid to produce biofuel. Microalgae have been suggested as very good candidates for fuel production because of their advantages in higher biomass production and faster growth. Chlorella Pyrenoidosa and Chlorella Vulgaris was selected and will be culture with diluted POME using Bolds Basal Medium (BBM) under autotrophic condition for 20 days in 250mL Erlenmeyer flask. This study conducted to study lipid production in microalgae biomass by varying nutrient ratio (C/N). COD Total, Mixed Liquor Suspended Solid, Mixed Liquor Volatile Suspended Solid, Chlorophyll-a, Total Nitrogen, Cell Dry Weight , Optical Density and Lipid are the parameters observed to determine which microalgae strain give the best lipid production. Feng et al., (2011) state that depletion in nutrient ratio will lead in increasing lipid content and vice versa. From this study, Chlorella Pyrenoidosa produce higher lipid content in 95:05 ratio rather than other ratio zulaihi UTM 84 p.
