The amount of solid waste generated in Malaysia is steadily increasing and the government is currently focusing on methods to approach the challenge. While there is an obvious need to minimize the generation of wastes and to reuse and recycle them, the technologies for recovery of energy from wastes can play a vital role in mitigating the problems. Incineration is an efficient way to reduce the waste volume and demand for landfill space. A study was conducted in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Skudai to determine the daily solid waste generation. In this study, management of municipal solid waste (MSW) in UTM Skudai, was also explored and estimation was done to identify the potential of MSW generated as an energy source by estimating the cost and energy savings. To get the total energy produced, these waste generated were calculated for the energy conversion. The result indicated that energy produced from waste generated at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia could be utilized as electricity in order to reduce amount of energy and cost used. fahmimoksen UTM 118 p.
