Universities are striving to fulfil the objectives of becoming entrepreneurial through commercialization, but this effort is still in a nascent stage with considerable room for improvement. The literature reveals that the role of the academics Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) is vital in determining their tendency to create knowledge and commercialize it, in order to build linkages with industry and bolster economic growth. However, there is a myriad of factors that helps in uplifting research commercialization in universities i.e. Knowledge Filter (KF) and Knowledge Barriers (KBs). The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship of academics EO and research commercialization including the indirect effect of KF and interacting role of KBs. Quantitative research design was employed to obtain data from academic research staff from five research universities (RUs) of Malaysia. Data was collected through survey questionnaire from academic staff in relation to EO, KF, KBs and commercialization. A multistage sampling procedure was utilized to collect data. Further, Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) technique was employed to test the validity of measurement and structural model of the study using SMART PLS. The measurement model of SEM confirmed the reliability and validity of measures. The findings of the study revealed that EO and KF directly influence research commercialization in RUs of Malaysia. The results of the study also revealed that KF statistically mediates the relationship between EO and research commercialization. Moreover, the findings of the study uncovered that KBs negatively moderate the influence of EO on research commercialization. The current study contributes to Knowledge Spillover Theory of Entrepreneurship (KSTE) and Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). This study is helpful for government, universities and industry to take strategic measures to uplift research commercialization in higher education sector and strengthen industry-academia linkages for economic growth and societal development. zulaihi UTM 229 p.
