In recent years, we have seen the concept of sustainability gaining traction around local property developers circles. It has become fashionable for some of these developers to launch signature projects boasting green certification as credentials. But more can be done to improve the participation in the drive towards sustainability. To attempt this goal we must first identify what are the push-back factors that seem to discourage Malaysian developers from expanding their sustainable offering beyond the niche ultra-high-end market as well as potential catalysts for industry players. Medini City in Iskandar Malaysia was chosen as the focus area for the study as it aims to be a modern, sustainable city from the outset. This study was conducted to gain deeper insights on the short falls in the system in hopes to correct the current condition. Data was collected through pilot study and questionnaire survey. The survey received 62 valid responses out of a targeted 100. Data from the respondents were analysed using mean score and subject to tests such as Cronbachs Alpha, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis. Results and analysis is presented in tabular and graphical form. Findings from this study indicate that the main barriers to sustainable construction are cost and lack of authority enforcement while the drivers of sustainable construction are financial incentives and positive corporate image from green initiatives. This study is expected to aid efforts to improve and spur participation of industry players in the direction of sustainability within Medini Iskandar Malaysia and the country as a whole. zulaihi UTM 86 p.
