Cocopeat can be used to produce a product such as mattress, string, rope and fishing net. However, lately cocopeat can be used as sorbent material to extract oil from the water. This research is performed in order to determine the sorption capacity of cocopeat. Two experiments have been conducted using cocopeat granule (Experiment 1) and cocopeat powder (Experimet 2). Two variables are used during experiments. First parameter is mass of cocopeat (3 g, 4 g, 6 g, 8 g, 9 g, 10 g) while second parameter is waste cooking oil (30 ml, 50 ml, 70 ml, 100 ml). Both experiment have been devided into Part A and Part B. Part A are using first parameter (3 g, 6 g, 9 g) and second parameter (30 ml, 50 ml, and 70 ml) while Part B are using first parameter (4 g, 6 g, 8 g and 10 g) and second parameter (100 ml). The results show the relationship between variable with sorption capacity of cocopeat. In overall, sorption capacity will increase due to increasing of variable that be use. Besides that, flow rate that obtain from both experiment will show decreasing trend due to increasing of both variable; mass of cocopeat and volume of waste cooking oil. Then, due to decreasing a flow rate, the sorption capacity will increase. After that, the relationship can be obtain from discussion where the sorption capacity of cocopeat will increase due to increasing of mass of cocopeat and volume of waste cooking oil. As conclusion, the increased of sorption capacity will make cocopeat more effective to cope oil spill problems zulaihi UTM 63 p.
