Benefit such as light weight small size, portability and noiseless contribute to the popularity of thermoelectric refrigeration. However, low coefficient of performance (COP) make it unfavourable compared to the conventional refrigeration process. This study focuses on design, fabrication and evaluation of the performance of a lab-scale thermoelectric refrigerator. The performance of the refrigerator was determined by conducting experiments under varying operating conditions. First, the cooling load was determined and a suitable available thermoelectric module was selected for an experiment to evaluate its performance. The performance tests were conducted to determine the physical properties and performance curves of the thermoelectric modules. The system consisted of the refrigeration enclosure, thermoelectric module, heatsink and ventilation fan. Results show that the temperature of the refrigerator was reduced from 30? to 16? within 3600s. The maximum coefficient of performance of a lab-scale thermoelectric refrigerator prototype was found to be about 0.78 zulaihi UTM 63 p.
