Aziz, supervisor Civil engineering Also available in printed version Plastic is everywhere in today’s lifestyles. plastic is now used as packaging material for a whole range of consumer products in addition to carbonated beverages. Polymer waste such as Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) is very useful for us but the disposal of the waste plastic bottles in large quantities has been a problem and is a great concern, particularly in Malaysia. One of the solutions to the disposal of the plastic bottle is recycling the plastic bottle into useful products. pieces of PET from drinking bottle may be useful in asphaltic (bituminous) pavements, result in reduced permanent deformation in the form of rutting of the pavement surfacing. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of using PET bottle as partial replacement of natural aggregate on the rutting resistance of asphaltic concrete, two mixtures was used in this study which is Asphaltic concrete with a nominal maximum aggregate size of 14 mm (AC14) and 10 mm (AC10). 0, 5, 10, 15% of PET aggregate was added to those mixtures by the weight of natural aggregate. bitumen penetration grade 60-70 used as a binder in this study. to determine the rutting two-wheel Asphalt Wheel Tracker Namely Asphalt Pavement Analyzer (APA) was used, where it set up to 8000 cycles with 445N applied load and 690 kpa hose pressure, the objective of this study include comparison between both modified mixtures AC10 and AC14. The result show that Adding 5, 10, 15% of PET plastic aggregate to the AC14 will help to utilize the using of plastic waste where it shows same rut depth as control sample while the control sample of AC10 is having lower rut depth among the modified AC10 mixture. The Control sample of AC10 has lower rut depth comparing to the control sample of AC14, Both AC14 and AC10 which modified with 5% PET aggregate are having almost same rut depth but adding 10% PET aggregate to AC10 will result in higher rut depth zulaihi UTM 63 p.
