Cold plasma application in bacteria inactivation for agriculture soil was investigated for both air and helium carrier gas. Cold plasma treatment system was fabricated based on previous research. The cold plasma system was improved by adding one more plasma pencil to the system to increase surface coverage of the sample to be treated. Before undergone treatment, the cold plasma system is optimized to obtain the parameter of the system which are, type of electrode, electrode gap, material for dielectric barrier, voltage output, flowrates and type of carrier gas were determined. Copper was used for high voltage electrode, stainless steel for grounding electrode, electrode gap of 5 mm, kapton tape for dielectric material, 8 kV voltage output and flowrates of 3 SLM for both air and helium carrier gas. Air and helium carrier gas plasma were used to investigate the effect in terms of bacteria inactivation, pH values and water contend of the agriculture soil. The result and effect of the cold plasma are identified. Cold plasma treatment was done by releasing the cold plasma discharge through the plasma reactor pencil glass tube mouth to the sample. Samples were treated for 0, 4 min, 6 min and 8 min of treatment duration. Bacteria inactivation are highest at 4 min treatment duration for the sample treated with cold plasma using air (7.40E+8) and helium (3.30E+9) carrier gas compare to conventional treated (7.1E+10) method (untreated, 0 min). Cold plasma treatment using air carrier gas produced lower pH value (8.71) compare to helium carrier gas (8.79) at min. Overall pH value samples treated with cold plasma does not have significant affect, as the pH reductions were small and still in the range of agriculture application (8pH – 9pH) mainly for mushroom soil. While for the water content at 4 min, cold plasma using air carrier gas (11.11%) showed higher water weight loss compare to helium (5.30%) carrier gas zulaihi UTM 83 p.
