Failure to such element may cause huge catastrophic event to occur. As a result, immediate action of repairing the RC column should be taken if there are any presence of damage. One approach in restoring the load bearing capacity of column is by implementing the method of confinement whereby lateral deformation of RC column due to axial load can be contained. This indirectly prevent axial deformation hence allow the load carrying capacity of the damaged RC column to be restored. Herein, steel strap tensioning technique (SSTT) is used as a method of confinement. SSTT make use the effect of active confinement whereby the confinement material is pre-tensioned hence increasing the confinement effect of the material. The study revolves around the effect of partially confined RC column which is governed by the volumetric ratio of the confinement material. Moreover factors that effecting the volumetric ratio is the spacing between confinement material and its number of layer. The results of this study shows that the increase in volumetric ratio results in a better confinement performance in reducing the effect of axial deformation of RC column. In all specimens, SSTT increased the ultimate load carrying capacity of the repaired RC column zulaihi UTM 92 p.
