The model of Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching is used as a theoretical framework for this study. This is a case study with qualitative approach. A total of six Expert Mathematics Teachers from Johor are involved in this study. The samples are chosen by using two purposeful sampling methods which are snowball sampling technique and maximum variation. Data were obtained from observations, pre-active notes, post-active notes, short interviews and final interview. Data from all these methods were used to support one another. Data were then analysed by using constant comparative method with the help of Atlas.ti software. Based on the findings, a framework of choosing, using and evaluating examples was constructed. This framework consists of the things that teachers use to guide them while choosing, using and evaluating examples. The findings show that to choose examples, these teachers take into account the needs of curriculum, students and examination. In order to teach a mathematical idea, they choose examples that offer a variety of learning opportunities about that mathematical idea. During their teaching, they try to disclose the learning opportunities within the examples by using the appropriate handling method. The examples that have been used in a teaching are considered to be effective if the students can understand the mathematical idea behind it. Suggestions to improve the usage of examples are only given if problems occurred while the examples are being used in the teaching. All these findings show that teachers need to use their mathematical knowledge together with other knowledge for the purpose of exemplification in mathematics teaching snhas UTM 376 p.
