Yet the hydraulic of vegetated compound channel is complex and still not fully understood. Understanding on this issue is very important to minimise the problem during flooding. An experimental study was conducted in the Hydraulic and Hydrology Laboratory, Faculty of Civil Engineering, University Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). The objective of this research is to determine the stage-discharge relationship, friction factor, boundary shear stress and drag force of two-line tandem and staggered arrays with 2D spacing emergent vegetation in compound straight channel. The flow depth was act directly proportional with discharge. Friction factor was determined using Darcy-Weisbach equation for the main channel relatively higher compared to floodplain area due of the depth-average velocity between floodplain and main channel as well as the moveable bed material. Boundary shear stress using zonal friction considering both depth-average velocities shows a significant difference reading. In addition, boundary shear stress acts in linear form with the depth-average velocity. Meanwhile the drag force between the array vegetation resist in a significant percentage compared to non-vegetation channel. Presence of floodplain vegetation was significantly changed the flow characteristics in mobile bed compound straight channel zulaihi UTM 88 p.
