Vascular diseases cause serious heart problems and potentially lead to death. Computed tomography (CT) scan is widely used in medical center to scan patient’s blood vessel. Since CT scan images are in two-dimensional, so the shape of the blood vessels cannot be seen clearly. This research focuses on visualization of cardiovascular three-dimensional (3D) CT images which highlights vascular structures by using Vascular Modeling Toolkit (VMTK). The purpose of the research is to visualize the 3D artery structures by using the level set and marching cubes techniques. Level set technique is a method used to extract the interface and shape from the data. Marching cubes technique is a simple and quicker way to create surface model from vessel image. VMTK is used as toolkit in order to do the visualization of the 3D CT scan images data. The data used in the research is in Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) format. In this research, level set and marching cubes techniques are investigated. The research design starts with process the data set by 3D Slicer software. After that, the processed data are visualized by direct volume rendering approach and fast marching segmentation in 3D Slicer software. Then, the visualization of the processed data is carried out by level set and marching cubes techniques by using VMTK. At last, the results of vascular branches extracted through the techniques by using VMTK are compared to the direct volume rendering and fast marching segmentation results. The performance of the research measured by the visibility of the extracted abdominal aorta that emphasize the clarity of the blood vessels performed by level set technique and marching cubes technique fahmimoksen UTM 90 p.
