Abdul Awal, supervisor Civil engineering Also available in printed version Industrialized Building System (IBS) is the term used to represent the prefabrication and construction industrialization concept in Malaysia. Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) has been actively promoting the use of IBS in Malaysia. Unfortunately, construction practices towards conventional method is still being practiced widely even there were many researchers have done studies on the inefficient of that method. Therefore, the aim of this study is to capture the Malaysian construction industry’s perception of IBS application especially in Sabah region. The methods adopted for this study include interviews and questionnaire survey. Analytical data was analysed using SPSS method. Finding shows that majority of the construction industry in Sabah still practicing the conventional system. The setback of IBS application in Sabah is because of the enormous capital cost. In order to change this perception, majority of respondents agree that intensive training courses should be adopted for IBS manufacturer, engineers, architects, contractors and worker in Sabah as to improve implementation of IBS there. widya UTM 85 p.
