There is no doubt that public transportation is a gateway to sustainable accessibility system whereas several urban areas seen to be neglected on the provision of public bus services as Kota Tinggi is one of the examples. Subsequently, a free bus service so-called Bas Muafakat Johor (BMJ) had rolled out where Kota Tinggi is also beneficial from the service and become the pioneer of public transport in serving the local context. However, the problem arises where there are low number of riders to utilize the service which 慹mpty seats� scenario can always be found of the BMJ. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficiency of the BMJ service as inefficient public bus service can potentially bring several negative impacts, for instance, financial wastes, environment pollution as well as domain contributory factor to traffic congestion. Literature reviews are stress on the factors and the indicators that closely associate with the efficiency of public bus service. Bus Occupancy Survey (BOS) and on-field questionnaire survey are used as the research method for this study in understanding the trend of passengers on-board as well as access the perception of respondent regard to the service provision. The pilot survey was done to ensure the questionnaires set are eligible and able to achieve the objectives of the study. The sample size for the study is 100 samples and the sampling methods is stratified sampling. Descriptive Statistics and Inferential Statistics will be used as analysis method for this study. The descriptive Statistics are used to analyse the data of BOS, profile and travel behaviour of respondents, efficiency of the service and mean score for the Likert Scale in representing the efficiency level of the BMJ service while Inferential Statistics include Chi-Square test and Goodman-Kruskal Gamma are used to identify the relationship between the variables that are set and how strong in term of positive or inverse relationship between the variables. Furthermore, recommendations to increase the efficiency of BMJ service also will be suggested in this study. By conducting this study, it is hoped to give a better understanding of the current BMJ service to relevant stakeholders as well as redefine the service to deliver an efficient free bus service in meeting the travel demands and needs for all groups of people shafika UTM 137 p.
