This is undesirable especially during resonance when the encounter wave frequency is in the region of the vessel natural frequency. Fishing activities have to stop due to crew discomfort, possible lost of personnel over board, loss of footing or dangerous motion of equipment. This thesis presents works carried out to develop a system to mitigate roll motion in a small fishing boat. A passive anti-rolling tank was designed and applied to a 22� fishing boat. A 1:2.88 model of the boat with the anti-rolling tank was constructed and the tank抯 effectiveness was evaluated by calm water roll decay test. It was found that the tank was capable of reducing the roll motion of the boat. The roll decay coefficient was increased by as much as 66.04 %, resulting in significant improvement in roll characteristics. zulaihi UTM 117 p.
