Faudzi, supervisor Electrical engineering Also available in printed version Autonomous mobile robot navigation in an indoor environment using vision sensor is receiving a considerable attention from current researchers and robotic development communities. A camera is the only sensor that provides the appropriate information for the robot navigation and object detection. The purpose of the project is to develop a mobile robot incorporating a vision system capability utilized using a webcam for identifying an object, tracking it and following it as it moves. Several image processing algorithms is applied to achieve this goal and do the processing in real time using a mini-laptop responsible for extracting the suitable data to be send to a PIC microcontroller, which in turn process the data received to provide the appropriate orientation of the robot. The image processing part is utilized using RoboRealm machine vision software and Visual Basics, while the robot control algorithms is written in C language using the power of MikroC PRO tools atiff UTM 92 p.
