As we know, hajj season can be considered as a massive congregation of Muslim pilgrim, which happens annually. The organizers significantly will face many challenges in monitoring the huge crowd. For instance, missing pilgrims especially during disaster is one of the common problems faced during the season. The use of technology such as WSN is seen as an option to overcome the issue. WSN operates at 2.45 GHz comprises of multiple nodes that communicate to each other in sending information. As wireless system, WSN nodes circuit contains antenna structure that exhibits certain characteristic to suit the system applications. A smaller circuit can give flexibility on installation especially in critical area. Thus, it can reduce the overall circuit. Therefore this project investigates the performance of compact meander line monopole antenna that meets the requirement of WSN for crowd monitoring by analysis the entire throughput reading on WSN with embedded antenna. A monopole antenna is chosen in this project to obtain omnidirectional pattern in order to broadcast the signal and cover the whole area in monitoring the hajj crowd. The size of the conventional monopole is reduced by meandering the line. A size reduction of 21.5% is achieved. The designed antenna is fed with co-planar waveguide (CPW) feeding line. The fabricated antenna is attached to the WSN node and tested. The system is tested to identify their ability and capability to read the data from transmitter node transmit the data and display the results in a GUI program. The throughput test shows that the system can received data without packet loss at the distance of 12 meters. Both experiment for outdoor and an indoor scenario was conducted in high capacity of user which is in stadium and mosque respectively.
