Malaysia Theses Online (MyTO): The Nation’s Central Theses Repository

Malaysia Theses Online (MyTO) is a national initiative established by the Conference of University Libraries and the National Library of Malaysia (PERPUN) in 2005. Its purpose is to serve as a central repository to manage, preserve, and share theses and dissertations produced by Malaysian universities in electronic form.

Since its official launch on 9 February 2007, MyTO has become a key gateway for researchers, lecturers, students, and the public to access Malaysia’s postgraduate research output. Initially containing just 300 theses titles, the collection expanded rapidly to over 19,000 titles within its first two years, contributed by 21 university libraries across the nation.

Developed based on open-source software, MyTO adopts the Dublin Core metadata standard to ensure interoperability across different library systems. The platform supports simple and advanced search, keyword search, and browsing by contributing institutions. Access is provided in the form of metadata, abstracts, a 24-page preview, and full-text theses in PDF format.

Beyond supporting academic research and teaching, MyTO strengthens Malaysia’s knowledge-sharing culture. MyTO serves as a vital platform connecting Malaysian research with the international scholarly community, positioning MyTO as part of the nation’s intellectual heritage accessible to the world.

When asked, “If you could wish for one thing only, what would that wish be?” almost everyone; from beauty pagent contestants, to politicians, to religious leaders, to children, to the average person on the street states, “Peace On Earth” or “An end to all wars”. Those wishes, while exemplary, are meaningless.
